DATA MEETINGS – CONTINUED
Thank you to all for continued work on assessments and aligning curriculum to the assessments. This week, departments will focus on developing aligned short cycle assessments, and aligned daily assessments. As we incrementally assess student progress, daily, and weekly, we will be able to tailor instruction so that all students can make progress to be successful on the next interim, portfolio presentations, and ultimately, the end of the year high stakes assessments.
CLUSTER INSTRUCTIONAL WALKTHROUGH
On Thursday, December 1st, Instructional Superintendent David Pinder will conduct an Instructional Walkthrough to provide feedback on the overall instructional program here at CHEC. He will visit 15 to 20 randomly selected classes, along with his assistant, Dr. Fran McCabe. They will be looking at the Essential Practices, particularly practices 2, 3, and 4, and will be focusing on whether the scope and sequence is being followed, strong standards aligned objectives, alignment of activities and daily assessment to the objectives, and the push for cognitive work being done by students in a student centered classroom. Once the walk is complete, he will provide feedback to the Administrative Team, who will in turn share the feedback. Please welcome Dr. Pinder and Dr. McCabe into your classes, and demonstrate our pride, poise and perseverance in instruction!
CHEC Arts Update
The International Dinner Needs Your Talent!!!

For this year's International Dinner on Thursday, December 8, CHEC Arts is asking for you to get involved. We are wanting to make the event open to all teachers and students and encompass the rich traditions of our student body. Possible presentations could be a song, a dance, a poem, a skit, or anything that represents what the holidays mean to our students, teachers, and staff. If you are interested or know a student who would be interested in presenting, please email Amylia Barnett at amylia.barnett@dc.gov.
We will start rehearsing upon return from Thanksgiving break. Thank you, talented teachers.

CHEC PERSONAL GROWTH TEAM HAS A NEW PROJECT

A new PGT project aims to pilot Tier 1
Response to Intervention in 24 classrooms with the goal of continuing towards a

DECEMBER 2 PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY
This Friday, December 2, will be
a Districtwide PD Day. The Professional
Development Catalog for the Friday, December 2nd
PD Day is now available. Please register for your session on Sched by Wednesday, November 30th. Registering for sessions ensures that staff members receive
credit for attendance, updates on locations, and any key reminders from session
facilitators.
All staff members will attend district-led PD sessions from
8:00 AM – 11:15 AM. The agenda for each session, unless otherwise stated in
this catalog, is:
8:00 AM – 8:15 AM: Arrival and Check-In
at session room
8:15 AM – 11:15 AM: District-Led PD
session
Staff members will
return to CHEC between 11:15 AM – 12:30 PM with time embedded for a lunch
break. Our CHEC School-based PD will take place from 12:30 PM – 3:30 PM for departmental professional development. Departments will continue their work on the data driven
instruction cycle by learning about and completing short cycle assessments and
daily assessments, as well as embedding these in their objective
calendars. Department chairs will send
out detailed agendas prior to the afternoon professional development, and it
will be differentiated according to where each team is in their development
process.

Instructional Video to PD Day (12/2)
In preparation for the district PD day on Friday,
December 2, all Health and PE, World Languages, Art, and Music teaches, please
bring your laptops and a short video of your practice. These videos will be
used for DCCs and their cohorts to share feedback during the PD
session. Teachers should not worry about uploading videos in advance of
the PD day, as time will be carved out in the session to do so. Please direct
any questions to the following points of contact: Danielle Head (HPE), Brandon Irwin (Art), Maggie White (World Languages), and Franklyn Johnson-Williams (Music).

OPPORTUNITIES AND UPDATES
The Leadership Team will continue to meet every other Friday this year, and the Academic Leadership Team (ALT) will meet every other Wednesday. The ALT met last Wednesday, November 30, and our next ALT/Leadership Team meeting will be Wednesday, December 14. At this meeting, we will continue to track progress on the comprehensive school plan, and analyze the results of the short cycles. The notes and minutes from all meetings are available on the CHEC Portal. The Academic Leadership Team is a group of teachers, counselors, and administrators who meet every other week to discuss school needs, and plan for improvements. The Leadership Team designs the school’s comprehensive school plan, and helps in its implementation. Please consider joining the Leadership Team this year. It is open to all faculty and staff. We need the involvement and voices of all. Remember, Leadership team meetings are open to all who are interested in schoolwide decision-making and leadership. You can come once, or as many times as you like, but please make your voice heard!
