PARENT CONFERENCE DAY, DATA MEETINGS, ASSESSMENTS AND ADVISORY 2

Thank you to all for a great Parent Teacher Conference Day!

We had 514 parents attend, and it was great to see the conversations, interactions, and partnerships being developed! Now that we are in the second week of Advisory 2, and we have completed interims, finals and portfolios, we have a great deal of data to use in planning for focused teaching and learning so that all students achieve mastery.

Advisory 2 – Data Driven Instruction

Data Meetings will be held this week so that we can conduct deep analysis into how students performed on the Interim Assessments.  Through closely analyzing each student’s responses, while looking at the actual assessment, we can determine what kinds of questions they had the most difficulty on, and hypothesize why they had these difficulties.  Following this discussion as grade level teams, we will design action steps to improve performance on these key areas and standards of weakness.

Once we have determined which standards to reteach, we will finalize the standards and design of our next Interim Assessment, which will serve as the road map for what we are teaching in advisory 2.  The reteach standards and the new standards form the basis for the scope and sequence for the second advisory.

NOVEMBER STAFF MEETING

November’s Faculty Meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 9.  The Agenda will focus on Building a Culture of Reading and Literacy through the 25 Book Campaign, and librarian’s Angela Martinez and Angela Falkenberg will be facilitating.

FOCUS ON ATTENDANCE

One of our school wide goals is to improve attendance to 95% per day for all grade levels.  Right now, the Middle School is still leading, however all High School grades increased last week. 9th grade had the top increase and is not leading the high school. Kudos!  Here is the data for last week:

  • 6th grade - 94% attendance  - 2% increase
  • 7th grade - 94% attendance  - same
  • 8th grade - 93% attendance - 1% decrease
  • 9th Grade -86% - 7% decrease
  • 10th Grade -84.7%  - 2.6 % decrease!
  • 11th Grade -8.8 % - 3% decrease
  • 12th Grade -73.9 - 8.9% decrease

Let’s focus keep going to our goal of 95%!!!

CHEC SENIORS DEMONSTRATE PRIDE POISE AND PERSEVERANCE
Submitted by Mr. Connor

A shout out to Mr. Connor for taking a group of CHEC seniors to tour the House Floor and Capital visit last week.  Mr. Connor described the visit: “Our students were very engaged throughout the entirety of our stay and proved to the intellectual curious scholars that we always hoped they would become once they leave our classrooms; I was grateful and humbled to witness their growth, poise, and maturity as they sat and toured this morning. The students themselves also expressed their enjoyment of our trip today and were asking multitudes of extended questions to me and the other chaperones as we were returning back to school. The engagement and time spent with our students today only reinforced my love in working with them and working at our school for all these years.”

OPPORTUNITIES AND UPDATES

The Leadership Team will continue to meet every other Friday this year, and the Academic Leadership Team (ALT) will meet every other Wednesday. The ALT met last Wednesday, October 19, and our next ALT meeting will be Wednesday, November 16. At this meeting, we will begin to track progress on the comprehensive school plan, and analyze the results of the first advisory portfolios and interim assessments. The notes and minutes from all meetings are available on the CHEC Portal. The Academic Leadership Team is a group of teachers, counselors, and administrators who meet every other week to discuss school needs, and plan for improvements. The Leadership Team designs the school’s comprehensive school plan, and helps in its implementation.  Please consider joining the Leadership Team this year. It is open to all faculty and staff. We need the involvement and voices of all. Remember, Leadership team meetings are open to all who are interested in schoolwide decision-making and leadership.  You can come once, or as many times as you like, but please make your voice heard!

CLIMATE

The advisory transition is the most powerful moment in establishing climate, norms, and routines. Remember our goal of consistency so that students experience consistent expectations and support. Please also remember our shift to Restorative Justice. Use CHAMPS and PBIS to support your classroom climate! The Deans will be chairing the School Climate and Culture Team. Please join to make your voice heard on the School Climate and Culture.

NOMINATE A STUDENT OF THE WEEK!!!

This IS A REMINDER ABOUT THE Student of the Week Program. Any staff member can nominate a student, for academic or mission related accomplishments. Please send your nominations by email to M. Tukeva.
